Day 45: 4th of July Festivities.

We are becoming increasingly good at making our own indoor fun while outdoor celebrations take place. Although we would love to be sitting in a park waiting to risk our lives for the sake of some pyrotechnic beauty, we figured cookies were the next best thing. Happy 4th to everyone! Day 44: Create a trading card.

There are not enough “thank you’s” or “i love you’s” in the world to express just how absolutely grateful I am for everything Soph has done and continues doing since the hip surgery. ‘Super Sophie’ is an understatement. Her patients and unconditional love not only makes me a better person, but it makes these endless weeks of bed rest a whole lot easier. I love you more than all of the everythings in the land!

Day 43: Use typical children’s art supplies in a non traditional way.

This year, due to the ol’ hip surgery, we sadly had to miss the ever-so-entertaining pride parade. You may remember these lil ladies from the pillow I made earlier this year; What a perfect fit for our Pride Project!

Soph has not only been an absolutely wonderful nurse, but with my lack of mobility, her creative confidence has also hit an all time high! :) So, as I played Art Director, my little assistant did a terrific job helping this project turn out the way it did! Who knew melted crayons would be such an easy success! My brain is already giddy thinking of the other uses for this technique!!

Let me just start by saying Easter egg dying was SO MUCH more fun when Mom was in charge of the egg prepping. I quite prefer my naive mentality now that I know the seemingly endless process you encounter BEFORE you can even think about turning those little white eggs any sort of color. By the time the eggs made it to the table, I’m pretty positive there were only, if any, 3 uncracked eggs… Which turns out didn’t make a difference once we woke up in the morning to find our “proudly displayed” eggs had been sitting out all night! Really? REALLY?? Not quite how I pictured this activity to pan out!

In one of our multiple trips to Michael’s, we came across a variety of plain wooden birdhouses that Soph fell in love with. As our room revamp progresses, these little guys will be hung in some sort of mobile fashion! Such an easy, but huge change a little paper and paint did!

Tie Dye Party

Day 32: Work only with green colored materials.

Today I learned the beauty in being a month behind! ;) St. Patty’s day was a perfect opportunity for an all green challenge. Even better? Why not make an entire girls night tie dye party out of it! So, with the lovely Darcy Wood in tow, we dyed not only ONE, but in fact, 5 shirts. (One for Brody too, of course!)

A note to those who embark on a ‘tie dye girls night’: Make sure your tshirt/dye ratio is in your favor. If only we had thought this through BEFOREHAND, we could have assured that lime green wouldn’t have actually turned out yellow. Luckily, there were no complaints! :)

Day 31: Use a new ingredient to bake

I had to come to terms with the fact that there would inevitably be ‘failures’ along the way; Trial & Error, per say. In the past, I have successfully made eggless cakes using sprite (for white cakes) or diet coke (for dark cakes). Being without the necessary brownie ingredients, I thought I’d try my luck and adapt the trick. Well… let me just say, the end result was not brownie-like at all. Haha! Oh well, the thought was there!

The Never Ending Game of Catch Up

Alrighty, let’s get on top of this! Boy, oh boy. Did I learn quickly how easy it is to get off course! One missed day turns into four missed days… turns into… A MONTH BEHIND?? I’ll admit, the catch up process has been both stressful and anxiety ridden, but let’s be honest; Sometimes life gets in the way! And you know what? It’s totally fine! Though I have missed the devoted blog time, I have not by any means been out of the daily creativity, or my daily love for miss Sophie. I am lucky to have had project opportunities sent my way, but now I’m ready to get back into the swing of things.

Instead of trying to come up with arbitrary dates to fill in the missed days, (where I’d essentially be attempting to clear all evidence that I was ever behind in the first place) I’ve decided to take the more human approach. Things are gonna be messy and a bit ‘unperfect’ during this process, but that’s life!

If you’ve already been following along, I’d like to first off thank you. I think one of the hardest parts about being behind was falling off the wagon while I was getting such wonderful responses from you all. Your support is so greatly appreciated, and I hope you continue the journey with us! For those who are new to this little project, enjoy the fact that you get to play catch up WITH me! Either way, I hope to continue to inspire and intrigue anyone who cares to stops by!

With Sophs in my court, I know I’m loved and supported no matter how behind I am in posts, and in the end that’s what truly matters! :)

Wire Writing

Day 28: Work with wire.

It seems to be a common occurance, but like many of my previous posts, this is also a first attempt; this time at working with wire. I love quotes, lyrics, and inspirational sayings of all sorts, so I had a feeling I’d use this opportunity to try out writing with wire. I honestly couldn’t believe how naturally it came to me. Not only did the end result closely resemble my actual handwriting, but it didn’t take very long to make either! Eventually, I plan on mounting or framing it in some fashion, but for now we can relish in the wire work itself! :)

I have a feeling this won’t be the last wire-related project now that my interest is sparked!
