Love for America
Day 45: 4th of July Festivities.
We are becoming increasingly good at making our own indoor fun while outdoor celebrations take place. Although we would love to be sitting in a park waiting to risk our lives for the sake of some pyrotechnic beauty, we figured cookies were the next best thing. Happy 4th to everyone! Stay Safe, and from one gimp to the next.. keep your extremities safe! Peace....

Super Sophie to the Rescue!
Day 44: Create a trading card.
There are not enough “thank you’s” or “i love you’s” in the world to express just how absolutely grateful I am for everything Soph has done and continues doing since the hip surgery. ‘Super Sophie’ is an understatement. Her patients and unconditional love not only makes me a better person, but it makes these endless...

Happy Pride!
Day 43: Use typical children’s art supplies in a non traditional way.
This year, due to the ol’ hip surgery, we sadly had to miss the ever-so-entertaining pride parade. You may remember these lil ladies from the pillow I made earlier this year; What a perfect fit for our Pride Project!
Soph has not only been an absolutely wonderful nurse, but with my lack of mobility, her creative...

Day 39: Explore with something new
“It’s always better when we’re together.” -Jack Johnson
Each stick has a different date idea ranging from new restaurants, to recording our next hit music video. haha! Soph came up with the great idea to color the back of each stick as we complete them to continually brighten up the jar!

Egg Dying Disaster
Day 36: Work with food dye.
Let me just start by saying Easter egg dying was SO MUCH more fun when Mom was in charge of the egg prepping. I quite prefer my naive mentality now that I know the seemingly endless process you encounter BEFORE you can even think about turning those little white eggs any sort of color. By the time the eggs made it to the table, I’m pretty positive there were...

Lovely Little Bird Houses
Day 33: [Sophie’s Pick]
“If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.” - The Notebook
In one of our multiple trips to Michael’s, we came across a variety of plain wooden birdhouses that Soph fell in love with. As our room revamp progresses, these little guys will be hung in some sort of mobile fashion! Such an easy, but huge change a little paper and paint did!

Tie Dye Party
Day 32: Work only with green colored materials.
Today I learned the beauty in being a month behind! ;) St. Patty’s day was a perfect opportunity for an all green challenge. Even better? Why not make an entire girls night tie dye party out of it! So, with the lovely Darcy Wood in tow, we dyed not only ONE, but in fact, 5 shirts. (One for Brody too, of course!)
A note to those who embark...

Diet Coke & A Dream
Day 31: Use a new ingredient to bake
I had to come to terms with the fact that there would inevitably be ‘failures’ along the way; Trial & Error, per say. In the past, I have successfully made eggless cakes using sprite (for white cakes) or diet coke (for dark cakes). Being without the necessary brownie ingredients, I thought I’d try my luck and adapt the trick....

The Never Ending Game of Catch Up
Alrighty, let’s get on top of this! Boy, oh boy. Did I learn quickly how easy it is to get off course! One missed day turns into four missed days… turns into… A MONTH BEHIND?? I’ll admit, the catch up process has been both stressful and anxiety ridden, but let’s be honest; Sometimes life gets in the way! And you know what? It’s totally fine! Though I have...

Found Object Love
Day 30: Create something out of a found object.
Love is all around us, if we only open our eyes! While I was walking Brody around the block, I spotted this little guy; An already perfectly shaped found object! I guess I realized I must have an eye for these things when the friend walking with me questioned, “How the hell did you see that?!”

Wire Writing
Day 28: Work with wire.
It seems to be a common occurance, but like many of my previous posts, this is also a first attempt; this time at working with wire. I love quotes, lyrics, and inspirational sayings of all sorts, so I had a feeling I’d use this opportunity to try out writing with wire. I honestly couldn’t believe how naturally it came to me. Not only did the end result...

Day 26: Create instructions that others can use to make something.
Supplies:
-Jar/Bottle/Glass Container
-Paint (I used Acrylic paint in flat & metallic finishes)
1. If you are using a recycled jar/bottle with a label, you are going to want to remove it. (unless you are choosing to keep a specific label still on the bottle, you’re call!) Unfortunately, some packaging pros get a...

Notebook Paper Candle Holders
Day 25: Use traditional school materials non traditionally.
I love the tasks that challenge you to take something you are use to using one way, and finding a new creative way to use it! Simply by taking markers and coloring in various lines of some college ruled notebook paper, I made us some Valentine candle holders! To avoid any paper/flame hazards, be sure to use electronic tea lights...

And They Lived Happily Ever After
Day 24: Today, bring out your inner child and work with toys.
Thank goodness for being a nanny! Toys are the one thing I have at my disposal on a daily basis. Because today’s little people are both boys, the female figurines in the house were limited. Luckily, since Sophie and I hear that we look alike all the the time, using duplicate Belle characters wastn’t too far off! ha! Not...

Since both Sophie and I love popsicles and lemon ice, among many other frozen treats, some home made lemon-ice hearts was perfect. For the hearts, I used a silicone heart cupcake pan, and the vibrantly colored Calypso Lemonade worked perfectly for that added touch! Just so happens they float, too!

Day 17: Make something inspired by and/or goes over an eye.
Glasses Brooch was used as a costume piece on set of The Golden Girls.
What can I say, I have and always will absolutely LOVE the Golden Girls. So much so, that I own the dvds. There was a good chunk of time when we would watch it every night before we’d fall asleep.
This past August, for Sophie’s birthday, I bid on this...

Dry Erase Board Love
Day 11: Pick a medium you’re comfortable and work with your non-dominant hand.
Lucky for me, I’ve already been put through this challenge for a good chunk of my time in design school. After my dominant right hand was slammed shut in the hinge part of a car door, I was left, well, using my left hand for everything. I chose to do a dry erase board, because since Sophie is left handed,...

Day 8: Use pages of a book to make something new.
As a designer, one of my favorite parts of the creative process is adding little details where people least expect them. For this flower, the details are in the pages chosen for the petals. Straying away from any arbitrary book laying around, I in turn chose to use the “Human Sexuality” chapter out of an Evolution book Sophie had....

Wow! Can I just say how excited I am with how these turned out. I can genuinely say I had NO plan, or idea of what I was doing going in to this; All I knew...

To: My Other Half
Welcome! I am so excited to be beginning this process. First, I am Brittany, and will be one of your leading ladies in this not-yet-told story. I just recently bought the Make Something 365 daily creativity journal from Paper Source. Upon buying it, I found the most daunting part to be choosing my year long theme/subject/medium; I was stuck before I even began. Then one night, it clicked! I...
